Happy (belated) 4th of July!

Happy fourth (and fifth) of July! I realize I'm a day late, but I didn't want to let that stop me from sharing my patriotism and good citizenship with the blogosphere.  Yesterday my best friend from high school, Gail, was booked to sing for an hour at the Riverside Inn, a local historic landmark at which there were many festivities happening.  When she asked me to sing a couple of duets with her a few weeks ago, I was very excited/nervous/terrified, but I was happy to oblige.  She and I used to sing together a lot in high school, and it was great to have a chance to perform again.  I'll let you in on a little secret: the reason I'm holding the mic with both hands in the third picture is because they were shaking too badly to only use one, but by the end of show I had loosened up a bit.  Overall, I had a great fourth, and it was definitely more exciting than most.  Dan and I didn't end up watching fireworks because we were both too darn sleepy by the end of the day, but I did see seven go off on my way home from his house, so I count that as a success.

  1. you look so comfortable up there-- i could never do that and admire anyone that can get up in front of the public and speak, much less sing(looking adorable as well)!

  9. Great blue dress -- it's so vibrant! And you are brave, but I bet you were great! My sister sings in front of audiences sometimes, and I don't know how she does it. I've only ever done it as part of a chorus in a musical.

  10. Thank you for all of the lovely comments! We were told to sing songs that people would be familiar with, so we sang Breath (2 AM) by Anna Nalick, Leave the Pieces by The Wreckers, The Battle Hymn of the Republic and God Bless America. Gail also sang a bunch of other songs by herself.

  11. You look so lovely in that vibrant blue dress! And I agree with all the previous commenters who remarked on your bravery. I was in choir back in middle school, but the thought of singing onstage pretty much terrifies me now!

(Lost Kennywood is my favorite area of the park, too! The Whip is basically my top ride of all time. And my owl top is from the Mad Hatter Antique Mall in Adamstown, PA. I stopped there on the way home from a family vacation, and it is by and far the most magical antiques/vintage store I've ever been to!)
