Hi! I'm Libby. I'm a 23 year-old librarian living in small-town Pennsylvania. As much as I enjoy being a librarian in small-town Pennsylvania, I realized that I could really use a creative outlet, and this blog was born. I look forward to sharing my fashion, music, film, book, and other interests in this new year!
2011 Resolutions:
1. Finally start the blog that I've been talking about for the past few months...check!
You see, for the past few years my life has seemed devoid of hobbies. I really enjoy being around people and having fun, but none of the things I like to do seem to really fit into the "hobbies" category (except power walking, of course.) Last year I was still in college and all of my free time was spent hanging out with friends and family and simply "being"...I didn't have time for hobbies. I graduated from college in May, landed my first grown-up job, which started in September, and now I'm done with work early in the day and have plenty of time for hobbies! My boyfriend suggested I begin reading blogs, which is a hobby of his, and I've been hooked ever since. In fact, I love reading them so much that I decided to try my hand at writing one! Thus, Vintage Aplomb.
2. Shop strictly thrift/pre-owned/consignment/vintage for one year.
This decision came after much deliberation. I'm a big shopper. I've enjoyed thrift shopping for a few years now, and I've come to discover the joys of finding unique pieces of clothing for amazing prices! After realizing that I've turned into a bit of a mall rat (I warned you that I'm a big shopper), I decided that it would be a good idea if I try to broaden my horizons beyond the walls of the local mall and explore thrift/consignment shops in the area. Also, my wardrobe is borderline hoarder size, and I feel I could really go a whole year (or three) without buying ANYTHING, so hopefully shopping strictly pre-owned will cut down on my being wasteful. My photos will still include articles of clothing that I purchased before this resolution, however, so if I say I got something at, say, the Gap, it means I purchased it at the Gap before January 1st, 2011.
3. Learn to cook.
Ah, cooking. Something I know absolutely nothing about. I've been saying I'm going to learn for a few years now, and one of these days I'm going to get serious. This year I did most of the Christmas baking, but none of the cooking. Maybe that should be my specific goal. Cook Christmas dinner next year. That gives me twelve months to get this whole "cooking" thing figured out. I guess we'll have to wait 'til next Christmas to see if this goal is met.
4. Learn to sail.
I live near Lake Erie. My parents got a cabin cruiser three years ago, and we have turned into quite the aquatic family. I feel like it's time for me to take my love of the lake to the next level and learn to sail. Also, this would give me another hobby!
