I'm Back!

Well, I apologize for the leave of absence, but I'm back!

I just needed a bit of a break.  To be honest, I'd thought about stopping blogging altogether.  I think I just let it get a bit out of hand.  I had started this blog as a creative outlet, but pretty soon I became preoccupied for making my posts look a certain way, making sure I was reading every new post on every blog I was following, becoming fixated on the number of followers I had, that sort of thing.  Also, I felt a bit too driven to post almost every day.  It got too overwhelming.  I have a full-time job, I'm studying for a Praxis test that I'll be taking at the end of April, and I just registered to begin my Master's part-time, so I'm pretty sure I'll be too busy to post as regularly as I did starting out, but I'm realizing that that doesn't mean I have to stop blogging altogether.

Also, when I began my blog and my goal of shopping strictly second hand for a year, I had hoped that this would mean that I would shop less, but I was shopping even more on Etsy shops and at thrift stores! I was beginning to feel like I needed new clothes constantly for my blog posts, but I'm going to focus more now on remixing pieces I already own and on posting more of the clothes that I wear to work (I'm a middle school librarian) and some more casual weekend outfits because, let's face it, I don't wear skirts and vintage outfits every day (even though I do wish I had the vintage wardrobe to do that!)

Basically, after a much needed break and a reality check, I'm back.  I won't be posting as regularly, but hopefully that will improve the quality of the posts.  Before my break, I received a request to see a photo of Dan, the man behind the camera.  Well, here he is.  This photo was taken on my Droid, so the quality isn't great, but I love it anyways.  It was taken at the end of last summer at a Pittsburgh Pirates game.  Dan's a great guy, and he refused to acknowledge the fact that I might have given up blogging.  He absolutely insisted I stick with it.  Thanks, dude!

  1. ok, good I'm so relieved!-- Libby I love your honesty and insight. this whole blogging thing is really very ego-based so I agree that it is way too easy to get wrapped up in it all--I'm often in two minds about it myself. if you think about it (which you obviously have done), all these elements of blogs today: what you're wearing, what you like or don't like, what you just bought, what you want to buy --it all has nothing to do with who we really are. none of it really matters does it? i resisted starting a blog for a very long time for exactly these reasons -- I'm always reminding myself to not take any of this stuff too seriously cause it is so easy to do so. I don't blame you one bit for taking a break-- smart lady you are. xo~

  2. I think that however you decide to post and however often is just right. It's hard to resist the urge to post every day (or even more!) but we'll just read whenever you can post!
    Welcome back :)

  3. nice and honest post. you know, i think all bloggers eventually go down that path and experiment with different things, and sometimes we get lost along the way. it's easy to lose sight of why we do this, especially when we find ourselves comparing to uber successful blogs and impossibly perfect girls and outfits (although you did a good job convincing me you were/are part of those!). i always try to remind myself that blogs are a little bit of a magazine shoot or t.v. show - we don't always know the whole truth behind a post, or who the people really are, or how everything came together. sometimes luck, sometimes talent, etc - but in the end whatever it is that makes your blog work also needs to give back to you and make it worthwhile - it's YOUR blog after all!

anyway, you seem to understand this so hooray for that, and hooray for not giving it up altogether! have fun and look forward to seeing more, however it may present itself.

  4. Thank you for sharing this! Was a great wake up call! It's something i've been tormenting over myself for a while now. I have found peoples blogs to be very EGO centred. As an individual i'm not like that and it's often a struggle to stick to my own path. This post has made me ever more determined to stick to my own path yet have a relaxed approach and not to get too hooked/obsessed. thank you.

  5. A blog is a very easy way to create a persona that isn't necessarily 100% correct. Then, we get wrapped up in perpetuating that persona. But Libby if you just be yourself, your style will show through the blog. Since I know you a bit personally I know that you don't have to try to be anything - you have a very specific style and personality that is all your own. If you just post what you like, and show us what you wear everyday, that will be fabulous. After all, we bloggers are all normal people anyway, looking for inspiration from the everyday. Just have fun with it. :)
