Make Light

Dan took these pictures a little while ago on a bright, sunny day.  It was really fun experimenting taking pictures indoors since we usually take my blog photos outside.  Most of the photos were taken by the window in my bedroom, although the bench I'm sitting on above is in our entryway (my dad made it!)

This skirt is another piece that can be worn year round.  I wore it here way back in January, and I've worn it quite a few times this summer.  The fabric is so light and billowy.  It's one of those skirts that's fun to twirl around in.  You know what I mean, right?

Squiggles

 My beginner's digital photography class is drawing to a close at the end of the week, and I thought I'd share some of the photos I've taken so far.  These are various vines that I've come across on nature trails around the school at which I work.  I just love how each one is different.

Biting the bullet

Well, I did it! I bit the bullet and got myself a new camera...and I LOVE it! I ended up purchasing the Nikon D3000 after much deliberation and talking to a few different people.  Last evening I walked around my yard snapping some photos in an attempt to familiarize myself with some of the settings.  These are a few of the photos I took, unedited.  

I have more exciting news as well! I'm taking a photography class during this month! It starts Tuesday, and it's taught by the photography teacher in the school district where I work.  I took two in-service trainings with her before, one on beginner digital photography and one on intro to photoshop, and I really enjoyed both of those even though they only lasted a few hours, so I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to work with her again and learn even more.  Soon Dan won't be the only one taking photos on this blog!

The beauty around us

Not long ago, my school provided an in-service called Arts Day.  I was very excited as soon as I heard about it, and my excitement mounted when I heard what classes we could attend.  I chose Intro to Photography and Knitting.  One of the high school art teachers, who had taught a Photoshop class at a previous in-service, taught the photography class, and it was fantastic!  Not only did she give us beginners lessons in the basics of photography, but she also showed each of us how to properly use our own cameras.  Now, Dan knows how to use the camera just fine, but I, on the other hand, really benefited from someone showing me what all of the different buttons were used for.  Once she thought we were adequately prepared, she let us go outside and explore the grounds with our cameras.  A few of these pictures were taken that day, and a couple were taken this weekend.  I know they're not amazing, but I'm hoping that if I document my photography from the beginning and keep up with it, I'll be able to see some improvement after awhile.  Someday I'm going to take a photography class...someday.
